This is the second year of a two year course.
DescriptionThis course has been designed for students wishing to develop metal engineering skills or enter a career in metal fabrication trades and related industries. There is demand for young skilled workers in a wide range of engineering careers. Students will use a range of engineering equipment to learn skills in cutting, drilling, grinding, milling and welding using oxy-acetylene, MMAW and GMAW equipment to develop their metal fabrication, joining and welding skills.
PathwaysStudents may continue VET training in Certificate III in Engineering, focusing on a specialist field under a Contract of Training (School Based Apprenticeship). Employment pathways include apprenticeships and work in metals engineering, manufacturing, civil construction, ship building and toolmaking.
PrerequisitesCompletion of the first year of this course - Certificate II in Engineering tradePATH.
Special RequirementsHigh visibility shirt and jumper and combination lock (for locker) will be ordered on behalf of the student (at cost) and provided at the start of the course. An itemised cost breakdown will be included in the cost to students. Black steel-capped boots and blue work trousers to be purchased by students prior to commencement.

A SWL logbook must be completed as part of the TGSS agreement. 140 hours of SWL is compulsory as part of TGSS over the two years of the course. RTTC has secured an agreement with ASC (Australian Submarine Corporation) and AWD (Air Warfare Destroyers) to place Engineering Academy students for SWL during their training in 5 day block placements. The placements must be authorised through Home Schools.

A number of units of competency are conducted concurrently and students will be required to complete some online assessment tasks (Moodle) outside of programmed training sessions.
Student Cost$480.00
This consists of a $100 (GST free) Regional VET fee and $380 (including GST) for Personal Protective Equipment and tools, payable to your Home School. These items will remain the property of the student, including take-home projects made during the course.
Home School Cost$3,400.00
For students ineligible for TGSS, the RTO Fee For Service cost of this course will be $3400 ($1700 per semester) (GST free), invoiced to the Home School by the RTO. For students who are following this career pathway, there may be an opportunity for students to complete this course under the Training Guarantee for SACE Students (TGSS), providing students meet the eligibility criteria. A TGSS Form A will need to be completed for all TGSS students and submitted to the RTO. A Form B must be received from the RTO prior to commencement of the course.
