DescriptionThis course will introduce students to multi-skilled work roles in the health industry and is delivered in our state-of-the-art Health Trade Skills Centre. Students will gain both qualifications over one and a half years, preparing them for pathways into nursing and allied health assistant roles. Employees work under the supervision of a health professional, providing assistance in patient care in hospitals, community health centres, aged care, disability and private practices.
PathwaysThis course can contribute to an ATAR score, in order to apply for university medical courses. Health Services Assistance pathways include Nursing Assistant, Patient Care Assistant, Orderly, Ward Assistant, Aged Care Assistant, Disability Assistant and Community Health Assistant. Students who complete this certificate are eligible to continue study at a Certificate IV level. Allied Health Assistance includes work as Physiotherapy Assistant, Podiatry Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Speech Pathology Assistant, and Nutritionist.
PrerequisitesAn interest in a career in the health or medical industry.
Special RequirementsStudents will need a DCSI history screening PRIOR to the course commencing. Students need to arrange this through their Home School.

140 hours of work placement is required over the 18 months of the course. 60 hours in a health facility in the first year and 80 hours in an Allied Health area in the second year.

Student Cost$167.00
This consists of $100 (GST free) Regional VET fee, $35 (including GST) for a Polo Shirt and $32 (including GST) for a National Crime Check, payable to your Home School. The National Crime Check will be organised by Plympton International College.
Home School Cost$649.00
This consists of $300 (GST free) delivery fee, $100 (GST free) RTO fee, $14 (including GST) for wheelchair hire, $125 (GST free) for First Aid, $50 (including GST) for medical consumables and $60 (GST free) for manual handling training. This will be invoiced to the Home School from Plympton International College.

For other schools outside of the region, the cost will be $1069, made up of $700 (GST free) delivery fee, $100 (GST free) RTO fee, $14 (including GST) for wheelchair hire, $120 (GST free) for First Aid, $50 (including GST) for medical consumables and $80 (GST free) for manual handling training. This will be invoiced to the Home School from Plympton International College..
Cost NotesSchools are advised to apply for TGSS funding during semester 2 of year 1 for students going on to year 2 of the course, providing students meet the eligibility criteria. An Education and Training Plan will need to be completed for all TGSS students for Year 2 of the course. RTO costs are subject to change prior to 2018.
