DescriptionA SACE achievement pathway for ATSI students focussed on playing and coaching basketball. Links to local basketball clubs and local primary schools facilitate mentoring, competition and coaching skills development.
PathwaysCompletion of Certificates II and III allow possible TAFE accreditation in Certificate IV in Sports & Recreation and potential career pathways in sport and recreation through playing, coaching or teaching. Students can also undertake the Certificate II as a Community Learning subject in order to gain up to 40 Stage 2 credits.
PrerequisitesStudents must be in years 10, 11 or 12 to participate.
Special RequirementsStudents should provide dark blue sports’ shorts and basketball shoes. Sponsors will provide Academy tops.

Students, with basketball mentors, will undertake work placement at identified local primary schools as coaches. Schools identified are Woodville Gardens Primary School, Challa Gardens Primary School and Pennington Primary School.

Students undertaking Stage 2 can enrol into this Certificate course, which will be taught as a Stage 2 Community Learning subject worth up to 40 Stage 2 credits for these students.
